TITO JACKSON ist eine Musiklegende: Mit den Jackson 5 und Songs wie „I Want You Back“, „The Love You Save“ und „I’ll Be There“ prägten er und seine Brüder ganze Generationen. Nach dem Weggang von Motown machten sie ab 1976 als The Jacksons bei Epic Records weiter und landeten Hits wie „Can You Feel It“, „Blame It on the Boogie“ oder „Shake Your Body“. 1997 wurden Tito, Jackie, Marlon, Jermaine und Michael Jackson in die „Rock and Roll Hall of Fame“ aufgenommen.
Seit mehr als 20 Jahren bin ich ein großer Fan der Jackson-Familie und seit meiner Kindheit begleitet mich ihre Musik. Daher war es für mich ein ganz besonderes Highlight, dass ich in der vergangenen Woche mit Tito Jackson eine halbe Stunde lang über Zoom ein Interview führen durfte! Anlass war die Veröffentlichung seines zweiten Soloalbums „Under Your Spell“ im August.
Noch vor wenigen Jahren war Tito der letzte seiner Geschwister, zu denen auch Randy, Rebbie, LaToya und Janet Jackson zählen, der noch kein Soloalbum veröffentlicht hatte. Das änderte sich 2016: Mit „Tito Time“ veröffentlichte er sein Solo-Debüt und bekam dabei auch Unterstützung durch seine Söhne TJ, Taj und Taryll Jackson, die in den 1990er Jahren als „3T“ sehr erfolgreich waren und die ich 2016 in Amsterdam für ein Interview treffen durfte.
Song „Love One Another“
Die erste Single-Auskopplung ist als Gegenmittel für die durch Zweifel und Angst geprägte Zeit der Corona-Pandemie gedacht. In „Love One Another“ singt Tito Jackson gemeinsam mit Bruder Marlon, Kenny Neal, Bobby Rush und Stevie Wonder.
Album „Under Your Spell“
Auf seinem Album bekam Tito Unterstützung weiterer Größen wie George Benson, Joe Bonamassa, Grady Champion, Eddie Levert und Steven Powell. Einer seiner großen Vorbilder als Blues-Musiker ist der 2015 verstorbene B. B. King. Ihm zu Ehren hat er dessen Song „Rock Me Baby“ zusammen mit Kings Tochter Claudette aufgenommen.
Auch die Songwriting-Legenden Kenny Gamble und Leon Huff, die eigentlich schon ihren Ruhestand genießen, steuerten mit „All In The Family Blues“ einen Song bei. Gamble und Huff waren die Produzenten der ersten beiden Alben der Jacksons bei Epic Records: „The Jacksons“ und „Goin‘ Places“.
Natürlich habe ich mit Tito auch über seinen Bruder Michael, den King of Pop, gesprochen, der am 25. Juni 2009 viel zu früh verstorben war. Vor 20 Jahren, am 7. und 10. September 2001, stand er nach vielen Jahren Bühnenabstinenz ein letztes Mal mit ihm auf der Bühne – bei Michael Jacksons gigantischem 30th Anniversary Celebration Konzert im New Yorker Madison Square Garden.

I’ve been a big fan of the Jackson family for more than 20 years and their music has been with me since childhood. Therefore, it was a very special highlight for me that I was allowed to interview Tito Jackson for half an hour on Zoom last week! The occasion was the release of his second solo album „Under Your Spell“ in August.
Just a few years ago, Tito was the last of his siblings, which also include Randy, Rebbie, LaToya and Janet Jackson, who had not yet released a solo album. That changed in 2016: With „Tito Time“ he released his solo debut and also got support from his sons TJ, Taj and Taryll Jackson, who were very successful in the 1990s as „3T“ and whom I was allowed to meet for an interview in Amsterdam in 2016.
Song „Love One Another“
The first single release is intended as an antidote for the time of the Corona pandemic, marked by doubt and fear. In „Love One Another“ Tito Jackson sings together with brother Marlon, Kenny Neal, Bobby Rush and Stevie Wonder.
Album „Under Your Spell“
On his album, Tito received support from other greats such as George Benson, Joe Bonamassa, Grady Champion, Eddie Levert and Steven Powell. One of his great idols as a blues musician is B. B. King, who died in 2015. To honor him, he recorded his song „Rock Me Baby“ together with King’s daughter Claudette.
Songwriting legends Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, who are actually enjoying their retirement, also contributed a song, „All In The Family Blues.“ Gamble and Huff were the producers of the Jacksons‘ first two albums on Epic Records: „The Jacksons“ and „Goin‘ Places“.
Of course, I also talked to Tito about his brother Michael, the King of Pop, who passed away much too soon on June 25, 2009. 20 years ago, on September 7 and 10, 2001, after many years of absence from the stage, he was on stage with him for the last time – at Michael Jackson’s gigantic 30th Anniversary Celebration concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
